HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHY YOU BREAKOUT IN THE SAME PLACES? IN CHINESE MEDICINE, EACH LOCATION ON THE FACE IS RELATED TO AN ORGAN. WHEN THAT ORGAN IS NEEDING SOME ATTENTION IT MIGHT RESULT IN BREAKOUTS, DRY OR RED/INFLAMED SKIN IN A CERTAIN AREA. READ ON FOR MORE INFO.

  • The forehead, around the mouth and the chin are all related to the stomach and how your digestive system is functioning. Are you eating lots of greasy foods? Drinking too much caffeine or alcohol for your body? Eating lots of sugar? Or maybe you have a food allergy? Common food allergies relating to breakouts are gluten, soy, corn and dairy. If you're having irregularities going to the bathroom, your stool is too soft or too hard, you're bloating from a food allergy or your menstrual cycle, PMS, PCOS and cramping can also effect digestion and show up in these areas. On a deeper and more emotional level - the stomach is related to stress and anxiety. Now, going EVEN DEEPER into those categories of stress and anxiety: emotions like worry, overthinking and obsession can hangout here. These emotions too, can show up as skin conditions like acne, dry skin or redness. Have you been feeling anxious lately?

  • Breakouts on the nose are related to the heart. Meaning, blood - blood pressure and blood sugar being imbalanced. (Remember this is for an actual pimple not blackheads.) The heart is also related to fear, heartbreak and sorrow. This is a very uncommon place for an actual pimple to show up, so if it does, and on regular basis, I would highly suggest getting a blood test done.

  • Breakouts on the cheeks are related to the lungs. Do you smoke? Do you have seasonal allergies or asthma? Maybe you have anxiety or stress that is causing you to breath differently, if so take time out of your day to focus on your breath. Close your eyes, relax and take a few long slow and deep breaths in right now. How did that feel? According to Chinese Medicine and mapping, the lungs or cheeks are also an area we store grief sorrow sadness and depression (these emotions will occasionally show up on the nose as well). Has your body been gently asking you to do breathing exercises, to cut back on smoking or to slow down, feel your emotions so they can finally pass... and just breath? (telling you through breakouts and these emotions)

  • Illness can show up as breakouts on the neck. If you are sick with a cold, the flu or fighting off something deeper - like an autoimmune disease you will see a breakout pop up here. It could also be related to hormones. (see hormone section for more info.)

  • Breakouts around the eyes on/and in between the eyebrows is related to your liver. A breakout here is telling you that your liver is absolutely overwhelmed! Our liver plays a huge role in eliminating toxins from the body. When the liver is overwhelmed... every other organ becomes overwhelmed too, maybe not right this second but eventually! Trust me. This can happen from drinking too much alcohol, lots of caffeine, eating fatty/greasy/sugary foods and taking lots of medications for long periods of time. Even if you're a clean eater now, you may have stored toxins in the liver from past diet choices. Slowly cut back on all the above (baby steps are the ultimate way to long term success, so you don't give up too soon or get burnt out) Also, try a liver detox! Dandelion Tea is great for detoxing. As always, ask your doctor first! Breakouts in this area can also be related to dehydration. Step up your water, fruit and veggie game for ultimate hydration at a deep cellular (and liver) level. :) Now, going deeper into an emotional level... The liver is related to anger, resentment, frustration and fear. Chill out and cool down. Hydrate and address those feelings so that you don't keep holding onto them. Remember, this doesn't just show up as acne, it can also show up as fine lines/wrinkles, dry skin or redness.

  • Breakouts following the corners of the mouth down to the chin, the chin, jawline + half way up the cheek, and neck are a sign of a hormone imbalance. This could be from being pregnant, post-partom, on birth control, off birth control, your menstrual cycle, a thyroid disease or autoimmune disease, lots of sugary foods or anything else that can cause hormone fluctuations. I recommend getting a blood test to see your levels because this can be really tricky! To put it suuuuuuuuuuper simple, there is most likely a high level of testosterone and a low level of estrogen - although many things factor into this. For men, this area is usually related to ingrown hairs or a stagnant lymphatic system. Our lymphatic system is what helps our body detox and it is very close to the surface of the skin, when this is slow our body will start detoxing through our skin- resulting in breakouts. This can be a cause for women too, but MOSTLY it is hormonal so check that first! If you do not have insurance or you'd like a more natural way of balancing your hormones, try my Balance Facial Oil Serum. (www.sierranicoleskincare.com/allproducts1/balance) This serum balances your hormones topically, with phyto-estrogens (estrogen from plants), reduces inflammation and kills bacteria.

  • Breakouts popping up around the eyes, on the temples and on or around the ear can be from the kidneys or liver. This can mean that you are dehydrated, need to detox your body, are angry resentful or fearful, lack of sleep or lacking essential vitamins from dark leafy greens. This can also show up as dark circles or puffiness under the eyes.
